The new Sabb Lister 4X90 engine attracted a record level of serious enquiries when it was unveiled at the IWA National Inland Waterways Festival and Inland Boat Show at Huddersfield on August Bank Holiday weekend.
The engine is part of the new X range, Lister Petter’s first completely new engine range since the Alpha. It was displayed by William G Search Ltd, the only UK private company to hold the full franchise for the entire Lister-Petter product range.
The 4X90 is a 50bhp four cylinder engine which will be followed next year by a 37 bhp three cylinder version, the 3X90. The 4X90 will complement the existing Alpha range, being more suited to broad beam craft, while the 3X90 will be better suited for narrowboats.
Search also displayed the Daewoo LO34 engine, the Westerbeke 3.5 BCDT 50Hz generating set, the SA Mart hydraulic steering systems and controls, the Dynawatt 230v 3.5KW power system that can be driven from the propulsion engine together with representatives from Lister’s ever popular Canal Star range of engines.
Eddie Whitham, Divisional Manager for Power Product Sales & Parts at William G Search, said: “This was an exceptional show. It was encouraging to see the response to the new products being exhibited.
“More surprising was the renewed interest in the Canal Star range. People clearly still want to buy British-designed and built products. The Canal Star is an uncomplicated engine, which is built to a very high standard and remains good value for money. Its low running and maintenance costs also make the range very popular with boaters.”
The 4X90, which meets all current proposed emission regulations, features grouped service points, which can be accessed from the top of the engine, two year warranty and extended 500 hour service intervals.
The engine is easy to install and offers rugged and reliable operation. It is a class leader in terms of power density, torque and package size. Maximum torque of 140nm/104lbf ft occurs at 2000 rpm and still delivers 134nm/99lbf ft @ 1500rpm.
