SEARCH HELPS COUNCILˇ¦S CLEAN SWEEP

Leeds-based plant hire firm William G Search Ltd has designed and supplied two bespoke, anti-vandal lengthman's units after a special request from RBT Connect Procurement Department working on behalf of Rotherham Streetpride, a division of Rotherham Borough Council.

The cabins have been manufactured to the Council's own specifications for members of its street cleaning team. Lengthmen, so called because they maintain a length of pavement or road, will use the cabins during their rounds as a base to take breaks and store their equipment securely.

Jason Dutton, Plant Co-ordinator at RBT Procurement, said "The existing facilities for our street cleansing lengthmen were not up to scratch, so we worked closely with Search to come up with a unit that would suit our needs. We are very pleased with them and appreciate the work that Search put in."

Each 12 x 10 steel unit consists of two separate rooms: an office/kitchen with gas cooker, sink and 20 litre water tank plus a double-doored store for tools and sweeping barrow.

They also feature gas lighting and heating, installed and maintained by Searchˇ¦s own team of CORGI registered engineers.

"To be honest, before the request came in, I didn't know what a 'lengthman' was", said Andrew Collings, Group Hire Operations Manager at Search. "However, we pride ourselves on our flexible service and were more than pleased to fulfil the order from one of our long-standing customers."

Rotherham Borough Council has subsequently ordered a further unit, bringing its total fleet to three.
