William G Search, the Leeds-based power solutions specialist, has supplied an engine to power a hydraulic winch used to replace cables under the North Sea.
The Daewoo PU086TI 290 bhp diesel engine has been provided to Forth & Tay Marine, based in Cupar near St Andrews in Fife. The company specialises in replacing anchor wires on drilling rigs.
The new engine powers a hydraulic spooling machine that is used to remove and replace mooring lines to and from semi-submersible oil rigs. The new cable is then replaced under high tension, saving time and money for the client.
Eddie Whitham, Power Products Divisional Manager at Search, said: ¡§This is a particularly testing environment for any unit. We worked with Forth & Tay to select and install an engine that had the performance and reliability required, and the Daewoo has been performing well.¡¨
Search has subsequently been asked to quote for a further unit.
