Engine distributor William G Search Ltd has designed bespoke power solutions for two specialist engineering firms based around the Lister Petter 4X90 four cylinder, water-cooled 2.3 litre diesel engine.
The Leeds-based company has supplied prototype units to power a furnace-lining machine for Stonefield Engineering of Rotherham and a heavy duty pressure jetter for Hugh Crane Cleaning Equipment Ltd of Acle, Norfolk. Search stands to win further orders for its bespoke engine packages should the initial success of the prototypes lead to wider scale production by the two firms.
Search worked closely with each customer to assess their needs before recommending the Lister Petter engine as the most effective power unit. In both cases, Search adapted the units to suit very different end uses in a way that enabled both Stonefield and Hugh Crane to maintain continuity whilst upgrading their production models.
Eddie Whitham, Search¡¦s Divisional Manager for Power Product Sales & Parts, explained that the 4X90 was the obvious choice for both applications: ¡§It has a compact design and delivers smooth and responsive power with fewer parts and longer service intervals. It¡¦s also very rugged and highly versatile, which is important when you think we¡¦ve used it in applications as diverse as equipment for a steelworks blast furnace re-liner and pressure jetter!¡¨
Hugh Crane has since placed an order for two further units along with a request for a variation on the engine to give an auxiliary hydraulic drive for a proposed power reeler.
¡§With the prototypes performing well, we wish both customers success and hope to be supplying more engine packages to them as demand from their customers grows,¡¨ added Mr Whitham.
