SEARCH ENGINES ENJOY WEB DEMAND

William G Search Ltd has secured a brace of orders from two of the world¡¦s less obvious export markets thanks to the company¡¦s website. The Leeds-based engine distributor is supplying customers as far afield as Guyana and Croatia with refurbished engines and speciality spare parts after initial enquiries via the Internet.

The Guyana order came from a seafood harvesting and processing company that operates a fleet of some 15 trawlers in the mid-Atlantic. The company was unable to find the necessary expertise in South America to service its range of Lister-Petter ST engines, used for on-board auxiliary power. Search is now supplying refurbished engines and spare parts to keep the fleet at sea.

A similar marine application order came from a Croatian fisherman with a Lister-Petter SL2 engine built around 1960. Having trouble sourcing spares but keen to keep the original unit running, he found Search via the Internet and is reportedly delighted after having the required parts flown out.

Eddie Whitham, Divisional Manager for Power Product Sales & Parts, is not surprised that the Internet is providing Search with greater export opportunities: ¡§International customers are used to trawling the ¡¥net for information but with these two orders we¡¦re providing a new type of Search engine!

¡§Some tentative requests come to nothing, of course, but we are receiving an increasing number of firm orders for all types of engines and parts for which we have gained a reputation for service and value in the UK,¡¨ he added.
