SEARCH DESIGNS TANKER TO REACH PARTS OTHERS DON'T

William G Search Ltd, the Leeds-based plant hire company, has designed and built a new effluent tanker that it claims can access sites which existing tankers cannot reach. From its 5 depots Search now operates this new Tanker.

The vehicle, which is mounted on a Scania 6 x 2 rigid chassis, holds 2,500 gallons of waste and 500 gallons of fresh water, which can be used to refill header tanks in order to provide clean water for welfare facilities.

Andrew Collings, the firms Group Hire Operations Manager, said: We identified a real need for a tanker which could be used on sites where space is at a premium and there is little room for manoeuvre. As a result, our own engineers have designed and built a new vehicle which does the job.

We are an Environment Agency-licensed carrier and, since we introduced the vehicle, it has been used almost every day.

Mr. Collings said the tanker would be very useful when the new outdoor events season begins. Search is the country's leading provider of equipment for outdoor events including the Star Trek exhibition and the Ryder Cup.

It will be particularly valuable at any event where there is a mass attendance but no waste infrastructure, he said. The tanker is able to store and remove waste so event organizers can place facilities where they will be most convenient for the public, rather than where the drains are.

The tanker is the first of a new Search fleet of such vehicles and a second one is already being planned for use in the North West.
