Charity work undertaken by David Griffin, a sales executive at the Nottingham depot of plant hire company William G Search Ltd, has been acknowledged at a prestigious London dinner.
David is area membership secretary of the Lighthouse Club, a benevolent organisation with close links to the construction, plant and civil engineering industries. Founded in 1956, the movement now has some 6,000 members worldwide. Over the years it has made donations totalling £5 million to help to relieve hardship and poverty for between 200-300 families every year.
As the club’s area membership secretary for Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire, in 2002 alone, David recruited 128 new members. This achievement led to him receiving a two-foot high, solid silver lighthouse at the Lighthouse Club’s annual dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane.
“The charity helps those in our industry who face financial difficulties – perhaps due to an accident at work – while we also help families suffering the effects of a bereavement,” he said. “My recruits last year ranged from lads on building sites to managing directors. Membership costs only £10 a year and 96p in every pound goes direct to the charity.”
